Pacific Coast and Alaska Cruise 2008

May 23: Skagway, Alaska

Skagway is a quaint old gold rush town of about 800 people that comes alive during the modern gold rush which is May through Sept when the cruise ships arrive.  Today we walked around in the morning, had a beer in the Red Onion Saloon, then boarded the White Pass & Yukon Route historic railroad for a beautiful ride to the White Pass Summit.  The ride was breathtaking, but it took a while.  I'm glad we don't have to rely on steam engines any longer!!
